Arsenal are in a transitional phase, rebuilding a squad that has seen four managers in quick succession (Wenger>Emery>Ljungberg>Arteta) while operating on a shoestring budget in comparison to some of their contemporaries.

In came Nicholas Pepe from Lille, David Luiz from Chelsea, Kieran Tierney from Scottish champions Celtic, Gabrielle Martinelli from Ituano, Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and William Saliba from St Etienne where he returned on loan for the season. The summer window was considered a success with some exciting personnel for the present and future brought in. The signings were joined by Spanish centre back Pablo Mari from Flamengo and full-back Cedric Soares, both on loan in January when reinforcements were required.
